One of my co-workers from this past winter recently picked up a first generation KLR650, as he does not yet have his license he needed someone with one to ride with to get some practice in before he took his test. What better combination than for me to join him with my own 650! For a heavy single cylinder, this KLR definitely has some get up, there was some points where I was unable to catch him; even with my re-jetted carb and opened air box.
My friend did very well, especially considering it was his first time riding on the street. Hopefully soon we are able to find some beginner friendly trails around our area so we can really make use of the dual sports we have.
This photo was taken on this day 2 years ago, crazy to think that I was able to be riding that early, and with decent weather on top of that! Today the DR sits in my garage, waiting for me to install new fork springs, and gold emulators. Thankfully the weather hasn't been too good so I do not feel too guilty about not having those complete as of yet.
I am excited for this upcoming riding season; not because of any large trips I have yet to plan, but just to be on two wheels again, as fellow riders can attest, a commute to work on two wheels is infinitely better than commuting in our cars or trucks (especially with the fuel prices nowadays).
There are some expected deliveries for my bike that should be arriving shortly, and I am excited to install, and share the process of doing so.
