Osoyoos was my next stop on my way down to Santa Barbara. I was very lucky that the weather turned and I was able to camp on dry ground. For those who have never been to Osoyoos, it is what I believe to be the closest thing to a desert we have in Western Canada. Almost every summer is very hot, and very dry; I suppose that is why there are so many wineries in the area. Regardless I was happy that my gear was able to dry from the warm winds and open roads.
It was a short and boring ride from Revelstoke to Osoyoos, only around 4 hours. I remember enjoying the shorter ride as the day previous I had a 8 hour day on the hard seat of the DR. I was surprised by how bare, and slow the town was. There was even a rodeo or festival that was happening the same days that I was riding through, but the roads were practically empty, and I was the only one staying in the campground at the time.
I wish that I have had more time to explore the areas around Osoyoos and check out some of the dual sport trails in the area. Unfortunately I had reservations in Santa Barbara that I was unable to change and had to be there by a certain day.
Camping at Cabana Beach Campground was terrific, there was full bathrooms, and even running water and a full sized fridge in a small "cabana" at my tenting site, the owners even gave motorcyclists a discounted rate from their already fair prices.Â
Since it was a shorter ride that day, I had some time in the evening to ride around the area and explore for an hour or so as I rode to the grocery store to pick up some food to cook for dinner. My evening was fairly uneventful, and consisted of cooking up my dinner and watching some Netflix on my phone thanks to the Wifi at the campground.
I was somewhat nervous for the upcoming morning/day, as the forecast called for rain ... a lot of rain for the upcoming day, and the radar had it following my exact route planned.
